Well, I thought it was time for an update…….

We are still waiting for you agency to receive their certification from Vietnam…they have received their Ontario certification. We both agreed not to start anything until we know they are ready to go because I don’t want to waste money on updating documents because the agency doesn’t have their certification yet…

We have made a few decisions however:

We will be requesting a girl between 12 months and 2 years….After careful consideration we decided that we really did not need an infant and that a toddler might be even better for us… When my husband discussed this with the Director of the Vietnam program with the Agency he said referral time would be much quicker as you could be looking at over a year for a young infant girl…..

I am also debating if we should put the nursery on the main floor of the house or on the second story. Our bedroom is on the second, but I am concerned I might have a difficult time carrying her so it might be easier if her room was on the main floor….but I am worried when she gets older or if she is mobile that she could open the door and walk out side at night…though they must sell alarms for that….

Anyways, that’s my update for today…

I think your age request is great! Most (U.S. families at least) are asking for under 12mo girl. Our little ones will be 2 in July and she's just perfect. I can't imagine why people wouldn't want the joy of parenthood, no matter how old the kid is.
The nursery thing, they do make door alarms if you end up choosing the main floor nursery. But, you might have more peace of mind if you had her on the same floor as your room. :-)

A toddler girl will be so much fun! I can't wait to follow your journey! We are adopting an infant girl, and naming her Elia. Our babies bedroom is on the 2nd floor of our house, and our bedroom is on the 3rd floor. We'll put a gate at the bottom of the 2nd level stairs, and an alarm on the door. Hopefully it will work out well. If she is in a crib they have little crib tents made of mesh that zip over the top of the crib so that children can't climb out-that might be helpful in both of our situations :)
